Experience the Amazon like never before on this 4-day adventure at Jungle Lodge, located on the serene shores of the Alto Madre de Dios River. With only 12 comfortable double-occupancy bungalows, the lodge offers a tranquil and intimate atmosphere, allowing you to enjoy wildlife without being overwhelmed by other tourists. Triple-bed accommodations are available on request, ideal for families or small groups.
Our bilingual guides will lead you on a fascinating journey through the rainforest, sharing local myths, legends, and the rich history of the area. Trek through dense jungle paths, cross winding rivers, and explore hidden trails while learning about the plants that have provided medicine and sustenance for generations. Witness macaws, toucans, monkeys, caimans, and other wildlife in their natural habitat.
Evenings at the lodge are magical, with optional nocturnal walks to spot tarantulas and other jungle creatures, or Cayman spotting when conditions are ideal. Of course, the delicious meals, combining local and international cuisine with fresh high-quality ingredients, often become one of the most memorable parts of the trip. Every moment of this tour offers an unforgettable connection with the rainforest.
Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, either by flight or bus, our guides will meet you at the airport or bus station and transfer you to our office for registration.
Your extra luggage can be safely stored at our office in Puerto Maldonado. After that, we will head to the Capitanía port, where we will board our motorboat and travel along the Madre de Dios River for approximately 40 minutes until we reach Paradise Amazon Lodge. A refreshing welcome drink will be waiting for you.
Our first adventure begins with an exciting visit to the hanging canopy bridge and zip-line circuit. We reach the starting point by climbing a tower and stairway that takes us up into the treetops, where a platform marks the beginning of the first zip line, almost 200 meters long.
From here, you will enjoy breathtaking views of the rainforest while feeling the rush of adrenaline as you glide through the air, securely fastened with high-quality safety harnesses. The zip line takes you to another platform suspended 27 meters above the ground.
Next, a 75-meter-long hanging log walkway, also 27 meters above the forest floor, challenges your balance as you cross to the platform where the second zip line begins. This second ride is a 160-meter flight back to the main tower, followed by a stairway descent to the forest floor.
At 12:30 p.m., we return to Paradise Amazon Lodge for a well-deserved lunch.
In the afternoon, we head to the river for a relaxing kayaking experience. Equipped with high-quality life jackets and accompanied by a motorboat for extra safety, this level-one activity is calm, safe, and suitable for everyone.
Later, we visit Monkey Island, where you will have the chance to observe a great variety of monkeys, including capuchins, tamarins, and squirrel monkeys. You will see them swinging through the treetops and running down the trunks of large trees, sometimes even coming close to accept food from your hand.
We then return to Paradise Amazon Lodge. At night, you will have the option to join a nocturnal activity, including an exciting caiman-spotting excursion.
After a delicious jungle breakfast, we begin a 1.5-hour walk to the famous Sandoval Lake, traveling through pristine rainforest filled with incredible flora and fauna. Along the way, you may spot giant otters, water birds, caimans, wild jungle hens, taricayas (small turtles), and a wide variety of fish.
Once we arrive at Sandoval Lake, one of the most beautiful lakes in the Madre de Dios region, we will spend several hours exploring the area by canoe. You will have time to fish for piranhas, paddle across the calm waters, swim, take short walks, or simply relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
We will enjoy a box lunch by the lake, surrounded by the sounds and colors of the jungle.
One of the most impressive experiences of the rainforest is witnessing the enormous size of its ancient trees. You will have the opportunity to stand at the base of the giant Lupuna tree and truly appreciate its magnitude. Depending on time and interest, we may also make a short visit to the historic Fitzcarrald boat or explore the traditional “chacras,” the local farming areas of the region.
In the afternoon, we return to the lodge to rest and relax. Dinner will be served in the evening.
At night, you may choose to join an optional nocturnal activity to discover the jungle after dark.
We set out along the majestic Madre de Dios River, traveling downstream by boat for about one hour to reach the native community of the Ese Eja people, the largest Ese Eja community in the region, home to approximately 200 families. During our visit, we will meet two local families who participate in the project “Rescuing Cultural Values,” located on Gamitana Island.
This meaningful project preserves and shares the ancestral heritage of the Ese Eja people. The families will introduce us to their ancient culture, including their language, traditions, clothing, and traditional dances. In our modern world, where many ancestral traditions have faded, this visit offers a rare and authentic cultural experience.
The Ese Eja people allow us to discover a way of life deeply connected to nature, rooted in the traditions of ancient hunters and warriors. This encounter gives us the opportunity to share, learn, and connect directly with one of the Amazon’s oldest living cultures.
Lunch will be served at 1:00 p.m.
In the afternoon, we will enjoy some rustic fishing along the Madre de Dios River. With a bit of luck, we may catch species such as pictus catfish, smallmouth fish, armored catfish, or red-eye piranha.
Later, we return to the lodge to relax. Dinner will be served in the evening, followed by a well-deserved rest.
We depart very early in the morning to witness one of the Amazon’s most spectacular natural shows: the Parrot Clay Lick, also known as the “Collpa de Loros.”
As the sun rises, we travel by boat for approximately 1.5 hours along the river, enjoying the peaceful scenery of the jungle at dawn. Upon arrival, we will observe a large clay wall where hundreds of green parrots gather each morning to feed on the mineral-rich clay. This colorful and lively experience is one of the highlights of the region.
We will usually spend about one hour here, watching and photographing this incredible wildlife spectacle before returning by boat.
On our way back, we will enjoy breakfast before continuing to Puerto Maldonado.
Once in the city, we will transfer you to the airport. Check-in is required at least two hours before your flight. If time permits, we will also visit the fascinating Snake Farm before your flight to Cusco or Lima.
We were with Boris on our 4D/3N stay to celebrate our Anniversary! It was a great time and well worth it. It was just my husband and I with him the whole time except on the 2 boat outings we rode with another group but Boris was still with us that whole time. He was able to use his scope on a tripod so we could get great photos/videos which was really awesome!
The rooms are really nice for being outside lol it was HOT and humid. Like really hot. Quick dry loose hiking clothes are a must. Also long pants and long sleeves. But it’s hot, you’re going to sweat the whole time you’re there.
Use lots of bug spray for any exposed skin. I used a lotion insect repellent on my skin and then a spray everywhere on top of that. My husband wasn’t as cautious and was covered in sun fly bites.
Pack binoculars and a flashlight.
The food was good, we never went hungry. I would maybe bring some granola bars or something basic for the hikes next time. I would also definitly bring electrolytes next time.
As far as wildlife I think the charts on the website are just made up and the clay lick locations have changed so that part isn’t accurate either BUT we did get to see plenty! We saw 4 different types of monkeys like basically our entire hike the second day, it felt like every time I started to get bored we found more. It was super cool on our second hike 2 of the types of monkeys were making their alarm noise (obviously Boris told us this since we had no idea) and leaving on our last day the howler monkeys alerted again. They make a super creepy but amazing sound. We saw a GIANT tarantula Boris gently lured out of hiding that was pretty cool. We saw capybaras swimming on our departure. We saw 3 types of macaws and 1 even flew into the dining room, we saw 2 types of parrots, and lots of other birds. If you are going only for the birds I wouldn’t stay here because there are closer lodges to the current clay licks. If you want variety though I would stay here. We were super bummed to not see a Jaguar but it was still worth the trip!
