This incredible, one-day adventure will start early, leaving Cusco in private transportation toward the community of Pacchanta. There, we’ll be received by a local family who will offer a nutritious, traditional Andean breakfast so that we can start our journey to the 7 Lakes and Alpaca Paradise through the Andes Mountain Range. On the way, we’ll enjoy incredible vistas of immense glaciers, including the imposing Ausangate at 6,384 meters (20,945 feet) above sea level.
We’ll start with the uphill horseback riding to the Alpaca Paradise and the first lake of the circuit known as Comercocha, a name originating from the Quechua language which means “green lake.” Continuing the journey, we’ll pass by other lakes: Patacocha, Azulcocha and China Otorongo, among others. After this horseback riding of about 15 km, we’ll return to the community of Pacchanta to have lunch. If the body asks for it, we’ll take a relaxing swim in the hot springs there before returning to Cusco, finishing off this incomparable experience.
Our guide will come to pick you up at your hotel between 4:00 to 4:10 am, then we will travel for 3 hours to the village of Pacchanta where we will have breakfast with a local family expert in food, while having breakfast you will trendra incredible views of snowy mountains and surrounded by alpacas. Then we will ride our horses and head to the ausangate mountain on the way we will visit a local family where they have hundreds of alpacas of different colors, we will go inside the fence to take pictures and feed them, also you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while enjoying a wonderful view of the landscape surrounded by alpacas.
Then we will continue on horseback to the foothills of Ausangate where the 7 colorful lakes are located, we will take a leisurely tour and explore the place while our guide explains to us about the colors and incredible stories about this beautiful place.
After exploring we will return on Horseback for 2 hours to the village of Pacchanta to relax in the hot springs, it is said that these hot springs have medicinal properties so enjoy a relaxing bath while having a breathtaking view.
Then we will go to the local family’s house to have lunch and then return to Cusco, the trip lasts approximately 3 hours, the tour will end at your hotel.
We want to make your trip to Peru as memorable and as easy as possible. In this section, you will find speedy answers to all those questions you had about Horseback riding to Ausangate & 7 lakes tour in one place. Please read the following information carefully – it will help you with any questions about our services.Has another question that we haven’t answered here? Drop us a line, and we will get back to you asap!
All information meetings are held in your hotel at 6:00 p.m., one night before the tour begins. If you cannot attend, you must coordinate another time at the (Peru Hike) offices. These meetings last approximately 30 to 45 minutes and there you will be given a small duffel bag, in which you’ll put all the belongings you intend to bring on the trek that won’t be in your day pack.
ou’ll receive a canvas case or duffel bag during your briefing. The porters will take them on the way and will deliver them to you when you get to each camp. They measure 66 cm / 2 ft. Long x 36 cm / 1 ft. Wide.
A maximum of 5 kg is allowed for each duffel bag that includes the weight of your sleeping bag, mat, clothes and other personal items.
The trek has to be paid for in full by at least 7.30 pm two days before departure. For example, if your tour departs on a Wednesday, then you must come to our office before 7.30 pm on Monday.
It would be much appreciated if you pay the trek balance in cash US dollars or local currency. You can withdraw some money from several ATMs along Avenida Sol (either in US dollars or local Peruvian Soles). You can pay by credit card or PAYPAL online, but you will have to pay an 8% service charge, charged by VISA and PAYPAL. We do not accept bank checks or payment of the balance by traveler’s checks.
Of course! During the travel, your main luggage can be stored at our office(you can organize briefing day or by email) or at your hotel, both free of charge.
Any equipment that you are not going to need on the trek can be stored safely in your hotel. Nearly every hotel will provide this service. Don’t leave items of value with your bags, put them in the hotel safe and obtain an itemized receipt (In the unlikely case of theft many insurance companies require that you have a copy of the receipt itemizing all the items). Best put items such as credit cards inside a sealed, signed envelope for extra peace of mind.
Peru Hike Company can pick you up from your hotel, as long as it’s in the Historic Center of Cusco. The pickup time will be coordinated with your guide in the briefing. The pickup time may vary between 30 and 45 minutes due to traffic. Cusco is a very old city, therefore, it has many narrow cobbled streets. Some hotels and Airbnbs may be located on streets without access to cars or on long, steep slopes, making it difficult to transport luggage. We strongly recommend that you book accommodation with good access.
Group tours are made up of different types of people. Physical conditions and ages can vary. By agreeing to be part of a group tour, you also accept that some people may be faster or slower than you. Therefore, each person can go at their own pace on the route. It may be the case that a group wishes to modify the tour; however, it will be the guide who decides, after consulting with all the participants, if said modifications can be made.
Strikes and demonstrations are usually frequent in Peru and this may interrupt some of our tours. Roads can be blocked and train tracks can be taken over. However, we will try to keep your excursion as planned, even if it means leaving the night before the scheduled date. Under these circumstances, tours may also be cancelled. In case of changes or cancellations, all situations will be coordinated with you by our operations department. Your safety is our highest priority and our decisions will be made to protect it.
You’re responsible for your objects during the tour. Please pay attention to where you leave your things and remember to take everything once you leave our trucks, tents, or restaurants.

This experience is unforgettable! Raymundo is an amazing guide and is an endless wealth of knowledge on the area and Peruvian culture. This was an extremely unique experience that not many people can say they’ve done, and Coco goes above and beyond to make it special. Not only were the views spectacular, being immersed in the culture made it a once in a lifetime experience. My one tip would be to take something before you go if you get carsick as the drive is very windy 🙂
10/10 would recommend to anyone wanting an authentic Peruvian experience.
Absolutely amazing and incredible day with fabulous Ruty 💫 So grateful for this magical experience. The day starts very early yet provided with a comfortable ride to sleep more before the roads get high into the mountains. We arrived promptly to tea and hopped on our horses to the glorious sacred mountain Apu Ausengate. We stopped for breakfast at a local Mamita’s home and alpaca farm. Such a joy and blessing to visit this woman and see her love for her family, land, and her sweet alpacas! The connection with the sacred mountain and the people will be forever in my heart. This is an incredible opportunity to enjoy this experience and sacred connection. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a unique and authentic experience. Ruty was an absolute pleasure to spend the day with along with the locals who helped us with the horses and fed us well. Magical 💫
This experience exceeded all our expectations and they were quite high. You have the opportunity to connect with culture, nature, history and Coco is very knowledgeable and passionate about its culture, it really manages to convey it. It’s literally a paradise.
Warm and charming hosts (Raymundo, horse guide, llama owners), miles of breathtaking scenery, memorable llama encounters (we also saw falcons), and lovely meals. Because of physical demands and early hours required for other tours (such as Humantay Lake, Q’eswachaka Rope Bridge, Rainbow Mountain . . . ) we narrowed our tours to only MP with Waynapicchu, Sacred Valley Tour, Cusco on our own, and this tour. It was a perfect splurge for us – unforgettable! Know to leave higher altitude tours, like this one, for the end. Appreciated that all costs are included, unless like us, you’re wanting to buy handmades from the alpaca farmers. Go into this tour well rested (although you can sleep on the way there and back) and ready to take in all its majesty and sweetness!
If you are reading this then take note! You will most likely have one of the most memorable moments of your life on this tour. Raymundo had lined up the day for us to see and experience not only true local life but also see some of the most beautiful land I have seen. The guy works very hard to make everyone happy and it was like we had a cinematographer with us. He would run ahead and video us with cinematic views. Not to ramble but me, my wife, and 21 year old daughter will never forget this day on horseback exploring and meeting wonderful people! Bring winter clothes!! It is cold 🥶 coming from a Floridian though.
