Explore the Amazon on this three-day, two-night adventure at Paradise Lodge, located on the banks of the Alto Madre de Dios River, near Sandoval Lake. With only 12 comfortable bungalows, the lodge offers a tranquil and intimate experience, allowing you to feel fully immersed in nature. Triple-bed accommodations are available on request for families or small groups.
During your stay, expert guides will lead you safely through one of South America’s most biodiverse regions. Trek through dense rainforest, cross the Madre de Dios River, and encounter incredible wildlife, including macaws, toucans, monkeys, caimans, and capybaras. Your guide will also introduce you to native plants and explain their traditional uses.
Visit Monkey Island to see playful primates in their natural habitat, and enjoy peaceful boat rides along calm river channels while spotting colorful birds and other wildlife. Evenings at the lodge are magical, with the sounds of the jungle surrounding you as you relax after a full day of adventure. Meals and accommodations are included, so you can focus entirely on the experience.
Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, our guide or staff will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the city center, where you will have time to visit the colorful and exotic local market. Depending on your arrival time, lunch will be served either in town, during the journey, or upon arrival at the lodge.
Afterwards, we continue to the port, where we will board our private boat and travel along the Madre de Dios River for approximately one hour until we reach Paradise Amazon Lodge.
A refreshing welcome drink will be waiting for you, and then you will be shown to your bungalow to settle in and relax.
In the afternoon, we take a 30-minute boat trip to Monkey Island. Here, you will be able to observe a great diversity of monkeys, such as spider monkeys, capuchins, tamarins, squirrel monkeys, and howler monkeys, as well as a rich variety of birdlife.
We then return to Paradise Amazon Lodge for a delicious traditional dinner.
At night, optional nocturnal activities are available. These may include night walks in the jungle, short talks on different topics, or caiman spotting, depending on weather and conditions.
After breakfast, we begin a 1.5-hour walk to the famous Sandoval Lake, traveling through pristine rainforest filled with incredible flora and fauna. Along the way, you may spot giant otters, water birds, caimans, wild jungle hens, taricayas (small turtles), and a great variety of fish.
Upon arrival, we will spend several hours exploring Sandoval Lake, one of the most beautiful lakes in the Madre de Dios region. You will have time to enjoy a peaceful canoe ride, fish for piranhas, swim, take short walks, or simply relax and enjoy the natural surroundings.
We will enjoy a box lunch by the lake, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.
One of the most impressive features of the rainforest is the enormous size of its ancient trees. You will have the opportunity to stand at the base of the giant Lupuna tree and truly appreciate its magnitude. If time permits, we may also make a short visit to the historic Fitzcarrald boat.
In the afternoon, we return to the lodge to rest and relax. Dinner will be served in the evening.
At night, you may choose to join an optional nocturnal activity to experience the jungle after dark.
Today, we depart very early in the morning for a 1.5-hour boat journey to a clay wall where hundreds of green parrots gather at first light. This colorful and lively spectacle is one of the highlights of the Amazon. We will usually spend about one hour observing and photographing the parrots before returning by boat to the lodge to enjoy breakfast.
Around 8:00 a.m., we set out on a hike to visit a native community, where you will learn firsthand about the traditional way of life of the local people. We will visit an indigenous family descended from ancient warriors and hunters, who will share their ancestral customs, traditions, and daily activities with us.
The community is also known for their beautiful traditional paintings. If you wish, you will have the opportunity to purchase one as a meaningful souvenir directly from the artists.
After this cultural visit, we will continue by boat to a quiet creek, where we will enjoy a backcountry fishing experience. These waters are home to different species of fish, such as catfish, sardines, and piranhas.
We will bring our catch back to the lodge, where our chef will prepare it with traditional Amazonian spices for a delicious lunch.
After lunch, we will transfer you back to Tambopata in time for your flight or bus connection.
If you have an early departure scheduled, please note that some activities may not take place.
If your flight or bus is in the afternoon, you will be able to enjoy all the activities as planned.
We spent 3 days here on a very memorable trip to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Pierina dealt with our booking incredibly well and everything was very smooth with the collection and our requests. Our amazing guide Jarinson (Harry) who was with us from our arrival in to Maldonado was incredible. All the staff were amazing a special call out though to Luis the barman and to Gabriel the resident biologist who runs the research work. We were blessed to see a Jaguar swim the river which was one of many incredible highlights. This place is as remote as you can get in Tambopata and having experienced other lodges and parts of the Amazon I can safely say this experience is by far the best.
